Expanding Vocational Training Across 15 MSME Technology Centres

The initiative operates under Samsung DOST Service (Digital Open Service Training), a flagship CSR program introduced by Samsung India in 2014. The new agreement expands the operational footprint of technical upskilling into structured government centres:

  • Target Intake: In the first year, 1,600 youth will undergo specialized, hands-on technical training.

  • Institutional Coverage: Training delivery will be anchored across 15 MSME Technology Centres spread across key industrial regions.

  • State Expansion Roadmaps: Planned expansion routes encompass training hubs across Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, with additional manufacturing clusters identified for future phases.

  • Past Performance: Between 2015 and 2023, the DOST Service framework trained 5,391 students across 12 MSME Technology Centres and an additional 10,612 candidates across 22 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in 16 states.

Device Coverage: From Mobile Hardware to Commercial Displays

Modern consumer hardware features densely packaged circuitry, complex thermal architectures, and high-density displays that require standardized diagnostics. From high-density AMOLED smartphone screens to multi-layered home appliance circuit boards, long-term hardware lifecycles demand specialized technical diagnostic handling and certified repair skills.

The training curriculum is structured around multi-category hardware repair:

  • Personal Electronics: Mobile phones, tablets, and smartwatches.

  • Home Entertainment & Appliances: Smart televisions, inverter air conditioners, and automated washing machines.

  • Enterprise Hardware: Samsung Professional Display products and digital commercial signage solutions.

Lab Infrastructure and Instructor Development

To bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world servicing benches, Samsung will supply dedicated resources directly to participating centres:

  • Modern Laboratories: Samsung will support classrooms and technical laboratories by providing contemporary testing apparatus, micro-soldering workstations, and live consumer products for practical tear-down and diagnostic sessions.

  • ‘Guru Shiksha’ Program: Through its Training of Trainers (ToT) initiative titled Guru Shiksha, Samsung technical leads will upskill faculty members at the participating MSME centres, ensuring that instructors stay aligned with rapid advancements in consumer electronics engineering.

On-the-Job Internships and ₹12,000 Monthly Stipend

To facilitate immediate career pathways following classroom training, the program integrates corporate field exposure:

  • Authorized Service Network Placements: Trainees will transition into three months of on-the-job training (OJT) within Samsung’s authorized service and customer support network.

  • Stipend Support: Interns will receive a dedicated stipend support of INR 12,000 per month for three months, providing financial stability during their workplace transition.

  • Inclusivity & Scholarships: The program includes tailored scholarships for female candidates and specially-abled trainees, alongside merit-based performance rewards for top-ranking students.

Official Statements on the Partnership

Emphasizing the requirement for skilled post-sales service infrastructure in line with domestic manufacturing growth, Shubham Mukherjee, Head of CSR & Corporate Communications, Samsung South West Asia, stated:

“India’s electronics ecosystem needs skilled service technicians alongside growth in manufacturing capacity. As products become more sophisticated, technicians need practical, regularly updated skills to install, maintain and repair them. Industry can help vocational institutions keep pace through relevant curricula, equipment and workplace exposure. Through this partnership, we are connecting training with service requirements and helping more people build careers in the sector.”

The GadgetXprt Verdict

The collaboration between Samsung India and the Ministry of MSME provides a vital foundation for India’s electronics after-sales sector. While national policy continues to accelerate local assembly and component fabrication, ensuring that technicians possess updated skills for complex multi-layer boards and smart home diagnostics is equally essential. By combining state-run technical centres, modern laboratory tools, and an assured ₹12,000 monthly internship stipend, this initiative establishes a practical and sustainable model for technical youth employment.
